The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) hosted a landmark event at Cinnamon Life Hotel, Colombo, to unveil a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s tourism sector and enhancing its global appeal. The event was led by Hon. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, with the participation of SLTPB Chairman Mr. Buddika Hewawasam, tourism officials, travel influencers, journalists, and their families.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hewawasam acknowledged the challenges faced by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, particularly the seasonal decline in visitor arrivals during the summer months. 'The next few years will be the most challenging period for all of us,' he stated, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration and strategic development. He highlighted the critical role of travel influencers and media professionals in showcasing Sri Lanka’s hospitality and inspiring global travelers.
Prof. Ranasinghe further elaborated on the innovative campaign, stressing its role in promoting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and diverse travel experiences to both mainstream and emerging tourism markets.
During the event, leading travel influencers shared insights into what sets Sri Lanka apart as a destination. They emphasized that travelers don’t need to seek out unique experiences—Sri Lanka’s landscapes and cultural richness provide them naturally. The country's diverse climates, accessible within a few hours' journey, offer everything from sun-drenched beaches to misty highlands, lush forests, and ancient heritage sites.
In comparison to destinations like Bali, which some influencers noted as overcrowded, Sri Lanka was praised for offering a more balanced and immersive tourism experience. Attendees were particularly impressed by the country’s warm hospitality, diverse cuisine, deep-rooted history, and vibrant culture—elements that make Sri Lanka a memorable and inviting destination.
The travel influencers expressed confidence in their ability to amplify Sri Lanka’s appeal on the global stage. Representing a variety of travel segments, including family vacations, solo female travel, honeymoon getaways, and adventure tourism, these influencers are poised to shape international travel trends. Their efforts are being actively supported by Sri Lanka Tourism officials and journalists from both local and international media.
The ‘Sri Lanka: A Story for Every Season’ campaign is SLTPB’s first large-scale summer tourism initiative leveraging digital storytelling and influencer collaboration. A curated destination familiarization tour will showcase wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, spiritual pilgrimage sites, scenic landscapes, and adventure tourism. Through content creation on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, influencers are expected to engage over 2.2 million travel enthusiasts worldwide.
Sri Lanka Tourism also shared promising winter peak season results, with international arrivals reaching 665,295 by March 23, 2025—a significant increase compared to the previous year. These numbers underscore the sector’s potential, and the new campaign aims to maintain this momentum throughout the summer months.
The event served as a call to action for stakeholders to collaborate in strengthening Sri Lanka’s global tourism footprint. With plans to generate over LKR 32 million worth of media coverage and attract diverse traveler segments, the initiative highlights Sri Lanka’s commitment to establishing itself as a premier year-round destination.
